What is Herbal Medicine?

Herbal Medicine uses whole plant preparations to support the body’s innate ability to heal itself. It combines a wealth of knowledge from traditional sources with the benefits of modern clinical research to offer a well-rounded approach to healthcare. In formulating a treatment strategy, all aspects of a patient’s life are considered in order to address the root cause of the problem.

What can it help with?

The consultation process

Every consultation starts with a registration appointment of 15 minutes. This costs £15 and includes a personalised herbal tea blend.

This gives us a chance to discuss your health concerns and agree a realistic treatment plan relevant to all of your circumstances, including financial.

Depending on the complexity and progress of the case, follow up appointments can take up to an hour. If less time is required, this will be charged pro-rata. The hourly rate for a consultation is £48.

During the consultation process, details of the presenting complaint are sought as well as a detailed case history; medical history, present medication, lifestyle, diet and social circumstances. A blood pressure check and other examinations are carried out where relevant.

A prescription is then drawn up appropriate to the whole needs of the patient. This may take the form of a tincture (an alcohol and water preparation), tea (dried herb) or, sometimes, capsules. For external application, oils, creams and lotions may be dispensed.

A prescription usually costs between £5 and £10 for one week’s supply.
